Wintergirls

Summary
Wintergirls is the story about to friends named Lia and Cassie. They were in a competition to be skinnier thus becoming wintergirls alive but not living frozen in small bodies. Then one day Cassie loses the biggest thing of all. Her life. Having Lia left behind she blames the whole thing on herself causes her to do painful and scaring things to herself as punishment for not saving her.

Opinion
This story was quite fantastic. It really had an insight on what anorexic people do to stay that skinny. Obviously you starve yourself but to the extent Lia did was horrifying. Lia wanted to eat only 500 calories a day. At one point she weighted eighty nine pounds, and still wanted to be skinnier.  When Lia was 'hurting herself' I could barley read it. It was way too graphic for me, sometimes I had to even put the book down! As the book went on she starved herself to be thinner but she did it because she wanted to ignore the hurt she saw in her life. Divorced parents, doctor mom who she can barely get along with a Dad who barley notices her. The friendship between Cassie and Lia was sad. Even more upsetting when Lia kept seeing her hallucinations everywhere telling her that shewas going to join her. The end was so great though, it was like a rainbow after a nasty thunderstorm. I would recommend this to again girls who enjoy a girl who through all her struggles tries her best to keep the most important thing hope.

Twenty Questions

Summary:
Twenty Questions is about a woman in Oregon named June who had the perfect life. Until a man named Ronald Pruett killed a women named Vernay Hanks the scary thing is, is that Mr.Pruett offered June a ride. June declined so he went looking for someone else, and that someone else was Miss Hanks. By working in the school’s cafeteria she knows both the small children of Miss Hanks and Mr Pruett. Feeling responsible for the death of Vernay Hanks June goes to her house to talk to her daughter and meets her uncle pretending to have know Vernay . By meeting with the Cindy and her uncle Harlan June learns information that could changed a ruin her marriage her life and her way of thinking.

Opinion:
This has been one of the best books I have read in a while. As the book progresses June becomes a more and more independent women. When you realize how Vernay and June were connected you would have been shocked. I also gave respect to how she treated her husband, Bill after the disaster. Its true eye sore for how bad kids have it in poorer cites. It made me appreciate where I go to school. Also parents, since June worked in the school she knew most of the kids. When she described one she always said a father or mother had left doing drugs or is dead. That is a terrible lifestyle for a child and it made me appreciate my parents and family. If you like a book with lots of twist, then this is defiantly the book for you. I could not believe the ending and was still shocked on how June handled it. To me this was a story about violence and betrayal. If you like a 'coming of age' slash mystery then you would enjoy this book. It’s not obviously a 'become of age' type of book but June became something different by the end. This book was fantastic and its now one of my favorites.

Snow Flower and the Secret Fan

Summary
Snow Flower and the Secret Fan is about a girl named Lily who shocking has a laotong which is a friendship between to women that last forever. Both girls share their secrets by writing in nu shu a language that only women know by using silk fans and handkerchiefs to use. As time goes by the girls learn about each other threw childhood, teenage years, marriage years and even as parents. When the years pass and as the women learn more and more about each other some event and misunderstanding come to threaten their friendship and love apart.

Opinion
I personally loved this book. I loved the main character and her best friend Snow Flower. This book really shows what true friendship is. It truly shows that women can have lasting friendships. Even when Lily finds out the lies about Snow Flower she still accepts her for who she and will stand against whoever is in her way that can threaten her friendship with Snow Flower. Through out the book it made me realize how I'm so appreciative of place and time I live in. In the book all the women said that 'they were worthless' and 'that they show their worth by all the sons they give birth too.' It just surprised me how low women were treated. Overall I truly loved this book, it definitely shows a friendship. Even when they friends didn't speak for years when one of them was truly in need they made amends in a second. All along even in fights their friendship was both the most important thing for them. I hope that I will or keep a friendship as dear as Lilys and Snow Flowers. This book is probably only girls taste. So to the girls if you want to read a good book about a true friendship this is defiantly a great read!

Things Not Seen.

Summary
The book 'Things Not Seen' is a book by Andrew Clement. Its about a boy named Bobby Phillips, that lives in Chicago ,who woke up one morning getting ready for school finding out he is gone. Not dead, just disappeared, completely invisible! The problem is that Bobby nor his family have and idea how he became this was.  Bobby learns what its like to have a disability by meeting Alicia Van Dorn who has been blind for two years. The story felt so realistic you would never guess how Bobby becomes indivisible!

My Opinion
When I first started reading I thought this was stupid. 'A boy that’s invisible, how cheesy is that?' As the book progressed, I regretted the words I said. It was fantastic! I loved how serious it was. Bobby being invisible was not seemly fictional. Bobby didn't become invisible by some magical fairy casting a spell. In the end it seemed one hundred percent scientifically possible! Also I love the character depths in the story. Bobby's friend Alicia has been blind for the past two years. You learned throughout the story how hard it is. If anything it taught me to appreciate the small things in life. I also loved that Bobby meets someone else who is invisible. The facts that amazed me was that, even when Bobby found the solution she didn't want to change it.  I love how in just three weeks Bobbys whole outlook on life is completely changed. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who likes a short heart feeling book on an interesting take on what its like to be handicap, you'll never wish to have invisible powers again!
